Equal Writes call for short plays

Equal Writes is looking for short scenes and monologues of three to 10 minutes long focusing on women, women’s stories or women in situations not presently represented on UK stages. Scenes can be for up to five actors, male and female, playing age 16 and above. A big driver for this initiative is the fact that women are 51 per cent of the population and form 68 per cent of theatre audiences, yet statistics by The Guardian, Equity, FIA and Sphinx Theatre show a persistent 2:1 male-to-female ratio of roles for actors appearing on stage. Successful playwrights will see performances of their writing along with a Q&A at Tristan Bates Theatre on 11 March 2013.
