Nigeria’s telecommunications company Etisalat has launched the first Etisalat Prize for Literature, aimed at recognising and celebrating writers and other members of the literary community across Africa. This is the first ever pan-African prize to reward new writers of published fiction while also supporting the burgeoning publishing industry in Africa. Publishers who have published a minimum of five authors in the past three years can submit qualifying books by writers of African citizenship based anywhere in the world. Works submitted by publishers must be the writer’s first fiction book of more than 30,000 words and must have been published in the last 24 months. Judges include Margaret Busby and Ellah Wakatama Allfrey.
