On Thursday 27th October, at the new Dalston C.L.R. James Library, Words of Colour Productions made history by hosting the first ever event in the as yet unopened landmark library. The exciting panel debate, ‘Fashion’s Best Kept Secret: Black people, culture and the fashion industry’, attracted a full house, including Diane Abbott MP for Hackney, fashion designers, academics, students and writers.
Chaired by Words of Colour’s Executive Director Joy Francis, panellists included:
Journalist, author and commentator Hannah Pool (Guardian, Grazia, The Times, Arise magazine). Zoe Whitley, curator of contemporary programmes at the V&A, one of the world’s leading museums in art and design. Spirit of London Awards 2011 nominee Nicholas Amfo, founder of ODF Clothing. Sharon Richards, founder of clothing line Henrietta Franklin and a 30-year fashion veteran. Award-winning couture bridal and evening wear designer Yemi Osunkoya, founder of the 20-year-old Kosibah label.

A review of the panel debate with pictures will appear on our new website in November.
